Blu

BluTale is a top down dungeon crawler created by master students at UoG. I was hired on as part of an assignment to help them create assets and animations.

I was given Blu, the player character, to rig and animate. I created a custom rig in Blender.

Level Design

Shortly after I joined the team, the level designer left. When I found out, I offered to help the programmers design and create some levels.

I started with the tutorial, taking elements and ideas from the levels that already existed and ideas blocked out by the programmers. In this level, Blu is dropped into a waste disposal area of the factory and has to make his way along the moving conveyor belts to safety. He encounters the first enemy of the game and must navigate through them without being shot.

The next level I made focused on the game's main mechanic, the RGB goggles that Blu finds after defeating the boss. These allow him to see different colour objects and removes other colours from view. In this level, the player must navigate through lasers and complete puzzles to unlock new rooms. The last room is a room filled with white lasers where the player must use the magnetic grab to manoeuvre boxes around to block the lasers.

The last area I created used fans and lasers to create navigation based puzzles.
